I suppose check it out and see if it looks good for you. I think it has no story, opting for emergent stories like in Mount & Blade: Warband. You can tailor the skills of the group, each guy separately. Your party can be tens of people large, but there's permadeath. It doesn't have multiplayer and the combat is, if I remember correctly, pausable real-time. I played it a while back and it's still in Early Access, but it's got most of the stuff. Now, if you want something that's more like that, I think Kenshi might have something for you.
